What are Children's Centres and What do they offer?

What are Children’s Centres?

Children’s Centres bring together a wide range of services and support which families of young children need. These are provided by a range of professionals such as Health Visitors, Midwives, Jobcentre Plus Advisors, Family Support Workers, Speech and Language Therapists. Most services and activities are free of charge.

Children’s Centres can contribute to:

  • improving health for children and families
  • improving education for children
  • enabling children to enjoy and achieve
  • reducing child poverty
  • helping parents to access work and training opportunities

Supporting parents and carers

Being a parent is one of the most challenging, rewarding and important roles anyone can have.
All parents or carers and children should be supported from their earliest years in learning and developing life skills so they can grow up healthy, happy and achieving their goals.

Children’s Centres offer early intervention family support that aims to help before problems get too big. In our work with families we use a range of approaches and resources to improve emotional well-being, social skills and opportunities for children to enjoy and achieve. Our service is confidential and we will not disclose any information without the individual’s agreement, except when a child may be at risk of harm.
